windows history

Windows 1.0

The first version of Microsoft Windows, called Windows 1.0, released on November 20, 1985. This version has many shortcomings in some functionality, so that less popular in the market. At first Windows version 1.0 is going to called the Interface Manager, but Rowland Hanson, head of marketing at Microsoft Corporation, Microsoft officials assured that the name "Windows" will be more "engaging" consumers. Windows 1.0 is not a complete operating system, but only extend the ability of MS-DOS with a graphical interface enhancements. In addition, Windows 1.0 also has problems and the same weaknesses that are owned by MS-DOS.

Windows 2.x

Windows version 2 also appeared later on December 9, 1987, and became slightly more popular than its predecessor. Most populeritasnya obtained because of its proximity to Microsoft's graphical applications, Microsoft Excel for Windows and Microsoft Word for Windows. Windows applications can be run from MS-DOS, and then enter Windows to perform operations, and will come out by itself when the application is closed.

Microsoft Windows eventually obtain a significant improvement when Aldus PageMaker appeared in versions for Windows, which previously could only be run on the Macintosh. Some computer experts noted historians as the emergence of an application behavior significantly than Microsoft's initial success as Microsoft Windows.

Windows 2.1x

Furthermore, two new versions released, the Windows/286 2.1 and Windows/386 2.1. As with previous Windows versions, Windows/286 using real-mode memory model, but it is the first version that supports the High Memory Area (HMA). Windows/386 even have 2.1 kernel running in protected mode with emulation Expanded Memory Specification (EMS) standard Lotus-Intel-Microsoft (LIM), the predecessor specification Extended Memory Specification (XMS), which then in turn change the topology of computing in the IBM PC. All applications are Windows and DOS-based as it was running in real mode, which runs on a protected mode kernel using virtual 8086 mode, which is a new feature which is owned by the Intel 80386.

Windows 3.1

In response to the release of the IBM OS / 2 version 2.0 to market, Microsoft developed a Windows 3.1, which offers some minor improvements to Windows 3.0 (as well as the ability to display the Fonts TrueType fonts, developed jointly by Apple), and also in which many of the bugs and improved support for multimedia. Version 3.1 also removes support for real mode, so that only runs on a protected mode that is only owned by the Intel 80286 microprocessor or higher. Microsoft was finally released Windows 3.11, which is a version of Windows 3.1 that includes all patches and fixes released after Windows 3.1 was launched in 1992.

Windows 95

After Windows 3.11, Microsoft began to start developing a version of Windows oriented to the user code-named Chicago. Chicago is designed to support multitasking mmeiliki a pre-emptive 32-bit as well as contained in the OS / 2 and Windows NT, although the 16-bit kernel is still there in it for reasons of backward compatibility. Win32 API first introduced in Windows NT was adopted as a new programming interface standards-based 32-bit, with Win16 compatibility is also maintained by using a technique called the "thunking". The new GUI is also owned by the operating system, although Microsoft did not initially planned as part of the operating system when released. Indeed some user interface elements that are owned by the Cairo borrowed and added to the operating system as tersbut other aspects of this version (especially the Plug and Play feature).

Microsoft does not replace all the Windows code to 32-bit; many parts in it is still a 16-bit (although not using a real mode directly), for reasons of backward compatibility, performance, and development time. This and the fact that many weaknesses in the design of Windows versions before, making the new operating system is disrupted the efficiency and stability.

Windows 98

On June 25, 1998, Microsoft released a new Windows operating system, known as Windows 98. Windows 98 is considered a minor revision of Windows 95, but is generally viewed much more stable and reliable than its predecessor, Windows 95. Windows 98 includes many new drivers and hardware support for FAT32 file system that better allows partitions to have a capacity larger than 2 gigabytes, a restriction contained in Windows 95. USB support in Windows 98 was also much better than its predecessor.

Windows 98 when Microsoft's controversial web browsers include Microsoft Internet Explorer into the operating system and can not be revoked, making Windows Explorer and the Windows GUI can display a directory like the web page. This opens a new case, called United States vs. Microsoft, who asked why Microsoft bothered to maintain its dominance in personal computer operating systems to compete with rivals such as Netscape and IBM with a dishonest way.

Windows 2000

Microsoft released Windows 2000 on February 17, 2000, an earlier version known as Windows NT 5.0 or "NT 5.0". Version of Windows 2000 is for the two markets, namely market share workstations and server market share.

Among the features of Windows 2000's most significant is the Active Directory, a network model replacement domain NT network model, which uses technology that is industry standard, such as Domain Name System (DNS), Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) and Kerberos for connects between a machine to another machine. Windows Terminal Services as well, which in Windows NT 4.0 only in one single product only, in Windows 2000 contained in all versions of the server. New features adopted from the Windows 98 also instilled in them, such as the Device Manager which has been improved (by using the Microsoft Management Console), Windows Media Player, and DirectX 6.1 (which allows the kernel-based operating system Windows NT to run the game). Windows 2000 also is a version of Windows NT-based kernel that does not require that final users to activate him.

Windows Me

In September 2000, Microsoft introduced Windows Millennium Edition (also known as Windows Me or Windows ME). This update version of Windows 98 with the support of multimedia and the Internet better. This version also includes the feature "System Restore," which allows its users to restore the system state to a known point fine, while the operating system failure. System Restore feature still be retained in Windows XP. This version also introduced a version of Windows Movie Maker first.

Windows XP

In 2001, Microsoft introduced Windows XP (which has the code name "Whistler" during development. Finally, after releasing several Windows-based versions of Windows 9x and NT, Microsoft managed to unite both the product line. Windows XP using Windows NT 5.1 kernel, making Windows NT kernel, known for its stability into the home consumer market, to replace the Windows 9x products based 16/32-bit already aging.

Windows XP is a version of the Windows operating system the longest (at least until now), because it ranges from 2001 to 2007, when Windows Vista was released to consumers. Ranks of the Windows XP operating system finally succeeded by Windows Vista on January 30, 2007.

Windows Vista

After reaching a large succeeded with Windows XP, Microsoft did not then just stopped developing Windows. The latest version of Windows, called Windows Vista, released on November 30, 2006 [1] for business while for the home users, released on January 30, 2007. Windows Vista is launched in order to have a more powerful security than previous versions, by introducing a limited user mode, which is called the User Account Control (UAC), to substitute a philosophy of "administrator-by-default" is applied in Windows XP . Windows Vista also introduces graphics feature a much more "attractive", which is called Windows Aero GUI, new applications (such as Windows Calendar, Windows DVD Maker and a few new games including Chess Titans, Mahjong, and Purble Place). In addition, Windows Vista also offers a version of Microsoft Internet Explorer is more secure, and Windows Media Player version (version 11).

Windows 7

On October 28, 2008, Microsoft is demonstrating for the first time to the public PreBeta version of Windows 7 (build 6801) in the 2008 Professional Developers Conference in Los Angeles, California.

PDC is multitahunan event held by Microsoft since 1991 specifically for developers and software architects. The conference was organized to help software developers understand more deeply about the future of Microsoft technologies.

In 1975 Bill Gates and Paul Allen designed the Altair Basic which later became the foundation for the first Microsoft operating system. Visual Studio and. NET Framework is the foundation for the development of current Windows applications, including Windows Vista and Windows 7 next. At PDC 2008 also announced plans presence of Visual Studio 2010 and. NET Framework 4.0 as a foundation for the development of future Windows applications.

On that occasion also announced that Windows 7 will be the official name. Initially Windows 7 is the code name (code name). Meanwhile, as we all know that the code name of Windows Vista is Longhorn. This is somewhat less common where the code name (the name at the time of the development process), the same as the final name. Over the last few years generations of Windows have a different name, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows XP, and Windows Vista. Simply because this is the seventh generation of Windows "Windows 7" to be a good reason.

The emergence of Windows 7 version of this PreBeta provide a sense of great curiosity among the public. User expectations of the operating system from Windows Vista's successor continues to emerge. The most basic expectation that there would dibenak each individual is an operating system that is responsive, safe, reliable, and able to be a good foundation for applications and digital devices.

Finally, on January 7, 2009, Chief Executive Office Microsoft, Steve Ballmer officially announced the presence of the Windows version Beta 7 (build 7000) in the CES (Consumer Electronic Show) in Las Vegas. At that time, Windows 7 Beta can be downloaded legally diwebsite Microsoft. For colleagues who want to download the Windows 7 from IIX network can directly navigate to http://wss-id.org/files. Windows 7 Beta version can be used until August 1, 2009 if the user registration and activation to http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/beta-download.aspx.
